My name is Doug Wozniak and I am a candidate for Macomb County’s 8th District Senate Seat.
When I was younger, fresh out of U of M, I worked running and growing the businesses of others, and I used the experience to start and grow my own successful construction contracting business. Mid-life, I decided to enter the Detroit College of Law (now MSU School of Law), while continuing to run my business. When I graduated and passed the state bar exam, I sold my construction business and went into legal practice with others. After gaining experience, I opened a successful firm of my own, where my team and I continue to practice law.
Early on in my legal career, I was approached to serve as an appointed/volunteer committee member under the Shelby Township Board. The Township was in debt and in need of fresh ideas and leadership, to get it back on track, so I worked as a committee member and eventually ran and was elected to the board, where I helped to eliminate township debt, place the township on a sound financial footing, and improve services and governance while enhancing the community with projects like Shelby Township Farmers Market. Though serving as a trustee took time away from my law firm, I was enjoying and succeeding at both, so I continued on the board for a couple of terms, until (then, Representative) Pete Lucido ran and was elected to the State Senate, and I was asked to run for his open House seat.
At the end of my first 2-year term in the House of Representatives, (then, Senator) Pete Lucido resigned his Senate seat to become our Macomb County Prosecutor. I was, once again, encouraged to run to fill the position left vacant by his departure.
As you now know, I would not come to the Senate position without experience. I have worked for others, owned my own small businesses, practiced law, served in local charitable organizations and local government, and spent the last two and half years serving and gaining experience in the House of Representatives. I now believe I am well-qualified to serve Macomb County as the State Senator from the 8th Senate District. I offer you more than just good intentions and exciting rhetoric - I would bring professionalism, passion, experience, and expertise to the office – and I would be honored to represent you in the Michigan Senate.
To date, I have sponsored and co-sponsored more than 350 bills and resolutions in the House, and I have considered and voted upon many more in the various committees on which I have been appointed to serve by the Speaker of the House (Judiciary; Communications and Technology; Families, Children & Seniors; Oversight; Health Policy; and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules) as well as on the House floor. To learn more about my legislative activities and accomplishments, please search information at www.Legislature.MI.gov.
To paraphrase my friend Pete, I have enjoyed many successes in my life, and I am seeking to become your state senator not because I need a job, but rather to do a job. I want to serve you in the Michigan Senate and restore your confidence in government to operate with competence, integrity, and in your best interests.
I am asking for your vote in the special primary election, on Tuesday, November 2nd, and I hope you will not hesitate to contact me if you need any additional information on my qualifications.
